Underwear. What to wear under the dress...
On your wedding day your goal is to look and feel the most beautiful you’ve ever looked in your entire life. True? Getting the right underwear for your dress is just as important as selecting the right foundation or shade of lipstick.
Now you’re probably wondering… shape wear or underwear?
“Shapewear has come a long way from being an embarrassing secret for the body conscious. In fact. you’ll know that a good piece can really make you feel as though you’ve hit the lingerie jackpot. It’s not about conforming to standards prescribed by others, but rather making yourself feel your most confident.”

Lets start from the top down
The Bra…. the easiest and most important.
Perky Pear £17.99 – you can choose from a selection of colours and sizes.
If you’ve been dress shopping already you’ll know that the majority of wedding dresses come with bust cups…. easy, job done, no problem here. It really is that simple… if you want to add a bit of a cleavage booster in the cups you can.
For those dresses that don’t come with bust cups and you don’t want them to be put in I give you PERKY PEAR. (Please note these are also great for just general day to day life).
These are tried and tested, I love them and would be lost without them. As a D cup I do panic about some stick on bras, boobs can be heavy and I always get self conscious and worry it may fall off….then I spend the evening looking down at my chest all the just to make sure its all still in the right place. I’m a worrier about things like this.
With perky pear you get a great lift, they are stick on, like big plasters but better. They will not fall off, 100% secure all day and night. Yes they aren’t re-usable but they aren’t something you just wear to work so for a once in a while wear I think its ok. The company is run by two sisters in the UK and you can buy direct or from Boohoo, Misguided etc. Give them a go when you next go out out (ya know when we’re allowed to 😉 )
The All in One
To have and to hold £29.99
For me this is the perfect bodysuit. It’s got the qualities of shape wear but for me this is about practicality of giving support and coverage when you want to wear something backless or low cut. I’m a lover of an extravagant dress as you may know but these generally are suited to your everyday bra and knickers combo so I find this my perfect go to. Because who wants to buy a bra to go with every different dress? Way too much stress and waste for me.
As a bride to be you have probably come across ‘To have and to hold’ on your bridesmaid search. This is how I came across it too, I picked my bridesmaid dresses, saw the bodysuits, felt this would be easier than trying to trawl the high street for suitable underwear, when they arrived I fell in love and bought one for myself as well.
….and if you do need bridesmaid dresses this really is a great place to go. Yes I know I stock bridesmaids dresses in the boutique but if you don’t like mine then go to them and you won’t be disappointed.
Let’s talk pants!
Commando high rise thong £32 @ Revolve
Now the bodysuit above is my go to as I just find it easier having the all in one. But if you just want flattering pants then the Commando high rise thong is a great option. The high leg doesn’t cut into you if you’ve got hips, its still sexy but gives you the shapewear results. I think you can get this in a full brief as well if thats what you feel comfortable in.
For those of you that have got / will have bust cups this could be a great option for you. Will hold your tummy in gently and smooth this area without being uncomfortable or restricting.
Lastly…the thigh shorts.
Spanx Oncore mid thigh shorts £58
I find this the trickiest area in shape wear…maybe becuase its the area I’ve invested most of my time in my early 20’s when I was ashamed of having a big bum and chunky legs compared to all my girl mates. For anyone who carries a little more weight on their thighs vs their upper body will probably seek something like this and be bitterly disappointed when they put them on, they cut in all the wrong places and if you get longer shorts then what you’re trying to suck in just pops out around your knees. Just me?? Spanx is by the far the best I have tried and i’ve tried many. Yes they are a little more ££ but a great brand and winners for me.
I will add that Kim K’s SKIMS brand does get a lot of attention. You can buy in Selfridges, I’ve personally never tried so I can’t comment on any styles. They are ££ but worth looking into if these options dont suit what you’re looking for.
If you would like to ask any questions on the fit / support of these items, or anything else do drop me an email info@lotterosebridal.co.uk or DM on social media. These are all tried and tested by me and products I can vouch for as I used for my own wedding and general personal life.
